         Hong Myung-bo (South Korea)

One to watch
South Korea's Bayer Leverkusen forward Son Heung-min was unplayable at times in the Bundesliga this season and was largely responsible for his side's surprise 1-0 win away to Borussia Dortmund in December. Familiar face
Former England boss Fabio Capello is in Russia's dugout.

History lesson
South Korea have won their last three World Cup openers.

Did you know?

  • Russia have only kept one clean sheet in their last six World Cup games, it was against Tunisia on June 5, 2002 (2-0).

(LIVE STREAMING) Brazil vs Mexico LIVE STREAM – FIFA WORLD CUP 17TH JUNE 2014

Posted: 17 Jun 2014 01:36 AM PDT

Group A: Brazil vs Mexico

Venue: Estadio Castelao, Fortaleza

Kick-off: 8pm (4pm, Brazil time)

TV coverage: BBC1, from 7.30pm

Best bet: Brazil 1/3, Draw 4/1, Mexico 10/1

Referee: Cuneyt Cakir (Turkey)

Managers: Luiz Felipe Scolari (Brazil)
       Miguel Herrera (Mexico)

One to watch: Oscar

Brazil's creator in chief was at his best against Croatia, scrapping in midfield, grabbing a goal and assist and playing a part in another goal. His tendency to drop deep makes him difficult to mark and his injury troubles in the second half of the season appear to have left him fresh to star for the Selecao.

Key clash: Fred vs Rafael Marquez

Fred took some criticism for the way he went down against Croatia and Marquez will need to be wary not to get too close to the Brazil frontman whilst also making sure he does not provide a platform for Neymar to star again coming in from the left. A difficult job but one the four-time World Cup captain will relish.

Head-to-head record:
Played 38, Brazil wins 22, Draws 6, Mexico wins 10

Opta stats:

  • Brazil and Mexico are meeting for the fourth time at the World Cup. The Seleção have won their three previous meetings with a combined score of 11-0.
  • Brazil and Mexico met the last time the World Cup was held in Brazil, in the opening game of the 1950 edition at the Maracanã. The Seleção won 4-0.
  • Brazil and Mexico last met in the 2013 Confederations Cup, at the same venue as this game, the Estadio Castelao in Fortaleza. Luiz Felipe Scolari's men won 2-0 thanks to goals from Neymar and Jô.
  • Mexico have only beaten the Seleção once on Brazilian soil. It was on October 31, 1968 in a friendly (2-1).
  • Mexico have only won one of their 11 games at the World Cup against South American sides (2-1 v Ecuador in 2002), drawing two and losing eight.
  • Luiz Felipe Scolari has faced Mexico once before at the World Cup. It was in charge of Portugal in the 2006 edition. His side won 2-1 in the group stages.
  • Neymar has scored 33 goals in only 50 appearances for Brazil and has six in his last four appearances for the Seleção.
  • Brazil have lost just one of their 34 World Cup matches in the first round/group stages of the World Cup since 1970 (W27 D6) – this came in a 1-2 defeat by Norway in their final group game of 1998 (but they had already qualified for the next stage).
  • The Seleção are now unbeaten in 38 successive matches in Brazil, with their last defeat coming against Paraguay (0-1in a friendly) in August 2002.

Familiar face

Take your pick from the Belgian line-up — 12 of their squad are owned by Premier League clubs, but there's no doubt who the star man is. Eden Hazard had a sensational season for Chelsea. Can he keep it up on the world stage?

(LIVE STREAMING) Ghana vs USA LIVE STREAM – FIFA WORLD CUP 16TH JUNE 2014

Posted: 16 Jun 2014 08:03 AM PDT

Group G: Ghana v USA

Venue: Estadio das Dunas, Natal

Kick-off: 11pm (7pm, Brazil time)

TV coverage: BBC1, from 10.40pm

Odds: Ghana 6/4, Draw 21/10, USA 21/10

Referee: Jonas Eriksson (Sweden)

Managers:  Kwasi Appiah (Ghana) and Jurgen Klinsmann (USA)

Key clash: John Boye v Jozy Altidore
Centre back Boye has been the subject of speculation linked him to Barcelona and has the perfect opportunity to show that he can mix it up against the bulky Altidore. The Sunderland striker struggled for form this season but two goals in a pre-World Cup friendly show he will still pose a danger upfront, particularly against defenders who give him any room to breathe.

One to watch: Christian Atsu (Ghana)
Despite only making his international debut two years ago, Atsu has quickly built up 21 caps for his country and will want to use the world stage to impress Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho. He has been dubbed the 'African Messi' by Ghanaians and will look to show off his pace on the counter.

Head-to-head record: Played 1 Ghana wins 1

Team News:
Ghana will be looking to complete a hat-trick of World Cup wins over the United States when the sides meet in Group G on Monday.
The teams have been paired in the last three tournaments, with the Black Stars winning 2-1 in Germany and South Africa.
But the USA come into the 2014 edition with greater confidence having reached number 13 in the FIFA rankings and topped CONCACAF's qualifying sector with ease.
Victory this time would not only erase some of that past pain but also provide a solid base for Jurgen Klinsmann's side as they attempt to pip group favourites Germany and Portugal to a place in the last 16.
Ghana's John Mensa, who played in the 2010 win over Monday's opponents as a late call-up, acknowledges the previous games between the two sides will add an extra edge to their meeting in Natal.
USA coach Klinsmann has courted debate with his decision to omit the country's record goalscorer Landon Donovan from the squad.
Donovan is a fans' favourite and has been hired to commentate on his former's team-mates on US television, providing a potentially distracting sub-plot.

Opta stats

  • Ghana have met USA in each of their two previous participations in World Cups, winning 2-1 on both occasions (2006 group, 2010 second round).
  • Indeed USA were knocked out of the 2010 World Cup by Ghana; the last team to face the same opponent in consecutive World Cup games was Scotland, who were eliminated by Brazil in 1990 before facing them in their 1998 opener (they didn't qualify in 1994). This will also happen a few days before this match when the Netherlands face Spain.
  • Four of Ghana's previous nine World Cup goals have come against USA.
  • The USA have only kept two clean sheets in their last 23 games at the World Cup.
  • Ghana scored more goals than any other team in the 2014 African World Cup qualifiers (25).
  • No player scored more goals than Ghana's Asamoah Gyan in the 2014 African World Cup qualifiers (6). The former Sunderland man has also scored four and assisted two of Ghana's nine World Cup goals, and netted the winner against USA in 2010.
  • USA boss Jürgen Klinsmann played 17 games and scored 11 goals at the World Cup with Germany. This is his second World Cup as head-coach having led his home nation to third place in 2006.
  • Landon Donovan has been left out of the USA Squad for the 2014 World Cup. He is USA's top scorer at World Cups with five goals; he has scored three of their last four at the competition.

(LIVE STREAMING) Iran vs Nigeria LIVE STREAM – FIFA WORLD CUP 16TH JUNE 2014

Posted: 16 Jun 2014 07:52 AM PDT

Group F: Iran v Nigeria
Venue: Iran v Nigeria

Kick-off: Arena de Baixada, Curitiba

TV coverage: BBC1, from 7.30pm

Odds: Iran 13/5, Draw 21/10, Nigeria 23/20

Referee: Carlos Vera (Ecuador)

Managers: Carlos Queiroz (Portugal) and Stephen Keshi (Nigeria)

Key clash: Reza Ghoochannejhad v Joseph Yobo
Charlton's Ghoochannejhad is the key to Iran's counterattacking play and Nigerian captain Yobo will be keen to keep him under lock and key as he is likely to be troubled by the youngsters pace. Iran will work hard in defence and then hope Ghoochannejhad can make the breakthrough.

One to watch: Kenneth Omeruo (Nigeria)
Chelsea youngster Omeruo spent time on loan at Middlesbrough last season but has recently been a key man in Nigeria's defence despite his youthfulness. The 20-year-old starred as Nigeria won the African Cup of Nations and will be looking to put himself on the map ahead of another likely loan move this summer.

Head-to-head record: Played 1 Nigeria wins 1

Team News:
Nigeria manager Stephen Keshi believes opposite number Carlos Queiroz is Iran's biggest threat at the World Cup.
The sides meet in Curitiba on Monday and it is a game which could provide the best chance for either side to take three points.
Iran came into the tournament as perhaps the least fancied of all 32 nations but in Quieroz they have a well travelled campaigner at the helm.
He has managed his native Portugal, as well as South Africa and the United Arab Emirates at international level, had a brief tenure at Real Madrid and spent several years as Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant at Manchester United.
As for his own side, Keshi is relying on an experienced spine to steer an otherwise youthful group.
Queiroz knows Iran are up against it on the biggest stage of all, but has a simple game plan to maximise their chances.
He has called for focus, enjoyment and a refusal to admit defeat.

Opta stats

  • Iran have won only one of their nine games at the World Cup, against USA in 1998 (2-1).
  • Carlos Queiroz's side have never kept a clean sheet in a World Cup game.
  • Nigeria are winless in their last eight World Cup games (D2 L6). It's the longest current drought among the 32 teams taking part in 2014.
  • The one previous meeting between Iran and Nigeria came in a friendly in 1998; the Super Eagles won 1-0.
  • No team scored more goals than Iran in the 2014 Asian World Cup qualifiers (30).
  • Nigeria's three goals at the 2010 World Cup all came from set piece situations (one penalty, one direct free kick and one from a throw-in).
  • Over half (11/21) of the goals that Nigeria have conceded at World Cups have come from set plays, however (three corners, two direct free kicks, four indirect free kicks and two penalties).
  • No goalkeeper kept more clean sheets in the top five European leagues in 2013/14 than Nigeria's Vincent Enyeama (21, for Lille).

Posted: 16 Jun 2014 08:06 AM PDT

Venue: Arena Fonte Nova, Salvador

Kick-off: 5pm (1pm, Brazil time)

TV coverage: ITV1, from 4pm

Odds: Germany 6/5, Draw 11/5, Portugal 13/5

Referee: Milorad Mazic (Serbia)

Managers:  Joachin Low (Germany) and Paulo Bento (Portugal)

Key clash: Cristiano Ronaldo v Jerome Boateng

Boateng is expected to be placed out of position at right back in a makeshift German back four and will face the unenviable task of marking Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo, who Portugal channel most of their attacks through. If he can stand firm then Germany have the game as good as won – if not, we could be in for goals.

One to watch: William Carvalho (Portugal)

Carvalho has been the standout player in Liga Sagres this season and has caught the attention of the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid. Owners Sporting Lisbon are demanding a huge fee for the midfielder but some good performances in Brazil might give one of the big clubs reason to test their resolve.

Head-to-head record: Played 17 Germany wins 9 Draws 5 Portugal wins 3

Team News:
Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has declared himself fully fit for Monday's Group G clash with fellow European heavyweights Portugal after knee and thigh injuries.
Germany coach Joachim Low has given his side a clean bill of health.
Midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, who went to hospital for a scan on Saturday, and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who missed Germany's final two warm-up friendlies and a training camp last month due to a shoulder injury, are both ready to start.
Captain Philipp Lahm will start as one of two defensive midfielders with Champions League winner Sami Khedira favourite to partner him.

  • Germany have only lost one of their last 18 games in the group stages of the World Cup, it was against Serbia on 18 June 2010 (0-1), winning 13 and drawing four.
  • Portugal have lost their two games in the World Cup against their opponents in Group G: USA in 2002 and Germany in 2006.
  • Die Mannschaft have opened their last six World Cups with a victory; the last time they failed to win their opening game was back in 1986, when they drew 1-1 with Uruguay.

  • Joao Moutinho delivered more assists than any other player in the 2014 European World Cup qualifiers (10).

  • Cristiano Ronaldo has scored two goals from a total of 48 shots at the World Cup.
